In high school I was a member of the Cadet Corps. I went to summer training at Camp Ipperwash, Ontario in 1958. After that happy experience, I joined the Canadian Militia as a Private in the Princess of Wales Own Regiment in Kingston, Ontario. I attended parades during the high school year. In the summer of 1960, I went to Camp Ipperwash as a Corporal Instructor. At Ipperwash I learned that I had been accepted as an Officer Cadet at Royal Roads. I started in Royal Roads in 1960 and graduated from the Royal Military College in 1964. Each summer I trained in tanks at Camp Borden and Camp Meaford, Ontario. I was commissioned into the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps (RCAC) and served in The Fort Garry Horse (FGH) and The Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD). In the RCAC I served in Iserlohn and Lahr Germany, Calgary, Nicosia Cyprus, Ottawa, Fort Leavenworth Kansas, Montreal and Toronto. I retired from the Army in 1985, having spent 25 years in the Regular Force of the Canadian Army. Photos or documents can be viewed in the sidebar tabs. |
